Guide for participation

In some MOOCs, course instructors and staff attempt to motivate students to interact through various participation components. To foster enjoyable, friendly discussions that are rich in content and facilitate learning and knowledge management among participants, please ensure that you are aware of the Code of Conduct and Terms of Service provided by edX and Coursera.

HARASSMENT OR DELIBERATE INTIMIDATION

Any form of expression (e.g. speech, text, or images) that can increase the risk of someone condoning or committing violence against members of another group is prohibited. Offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, stalking, and/or deliberate intimidation are also considered inappropriate. If you are unsure if a word is derogatory, do not use it. This also includes repeated subtle and/or indirect discrimination.

If you violate the Code of Conduct, you or your posts may be removed from platforms.

PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Avoid sharing your own or other people’s personal information publicly online. Do not include any of the following in the body of a public post:

・First and last name
・Email address
・Phone number
・Address
・Account numbers
・Any other piece of information which could be used to identify or harm you or others

ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT

Activities which are illegal, or those activities which violate academic standards or standards of integrity that a learner on platforms should be expected to know are considered to be unauthorized.

Having multiple accounts to give yourself a positive peer review and colluding with other users to give each other positive peer reviews are not permitted. Unless expressly permitted, working together with any person on any work within a course activity is strictly prohibited. It is unacceptable to give a user a bad peer review on an assignment simply because you dislike the review you get on your assignment.

There is no tolerance for plagiarism. Plagiarism is when you copy or reproduce words, ideas, or any other materials from another source without giving credit to the original author. Plagiarism also includes the practice of employing or allowing another person to alter or revise your work, and then submitting the work as your own. Plagiarism can also include self plagiarism, where a learner submits the same work that they had already submitted for another assessment or module, where this is not disclosed and permitted.
